Craft day for Maggi

by Freya Laughton on October 15, 2011

Last weekend Marazion Community Centre was full to bursting with teas, cakes, lunches, and ladies learning crafts, including notebook making, folk art, rag-rugging, fused fibre, beading and felt making. The day was brilliantly organised, down to the last chocolate brownie, by Crowlas and Ludgvan WI.

All the many cakes and crafts were in memory of one very special friend, Maggi Richards, and the money raised has been donated to the Sunrise Appeal in her name.

Maggi's Felt

I taught two classes. A felt picture in the morning, and a felt scarf in the afternoon. I hadn’t taught so many people together before, so I was a little nervous! Luckily I had two brilliant and forgiving groups to teach, and they all ‘felted’ excellently.

Making a felt picture

Most of the ladies had never made felt before, the scarf making was very ambitious in the limited time of two hours, but with a lot of hasty rolling and bashing at the end we just made it out of the hall before five! Sadly I didn’t have time to photograph all the finished scarves.

The atmosphere was wonderful and everyone went away with something lovely they’d made.

Teaching was fantastic, and I look forward to organising days of felt making in the future, with a little more time to play with the colours and decorations. I was reminded how much I love making felt. Here’s one I made earlier.
